Yamanto Central shopping centre wins major property award for its design excellence

Announcement posted by Invigorate PR 05 Nov 2024

Yamanto Central, Queensland's newest subregional shopping centre, has won the award for Excellence in Development at this year's Property Council of Australia, 2024 Queensland Retail Property of the Year Awards.

The highly coveted award showcases superior examples of iconic projects in property development and investment.

The award follows Yamanto Central's inclusion as a finalist for the Ipswich Region 2024 Business Excellence Awards - RPQ Group - Business of the Year Award.

"We are absolutely thrilled that our newest centre, Yamanto Central, has won such an iconic and highly respected award. The recognition highlights the centre's significant contribution to the region and its commitment to creating a world-class retail and community hub," JMK Retail, general manager, Vicki Leavy said.

Officially opened in April 2021, Yamanto Central has become a cornerstone of the community, offering an array of world-class retail brands, a Coles supermarket, Kmart departmental store, an outdoor casual dining precinct, a health and wellness hub as well as number of other elements including free undercover parking. Despite launching amid the challenges of the global pandemic, the centre has exceeded all expectations in terms of growth and customer engagement.

"We are incredibly proud of what Yamanto Central has achieved in such a short time," Leavy added.

"The success of the centre speaks volumes about its thoughtful design and community focus and it is an honour to be recognised as the best in the state."

JMK Retail sourced a world-leading team of partners to bring its newest shopping centre to fruition within its portfolio of retail centres. Designed by Buchan, constructed by Mainbrace and project managed by DMA Partners, Yamanto Central was developed with a vision to create a welcoming, modern and hyper-convenient space for the community. Buchan's architectural design successfully balances a contemporary aesthetic with functional spaces that invite visitors to shop, dine, connect and socialise.

"Buchan has delivered an inspirational space that evokes a sense of warmth and delight," Leavy added.

"Customers frequently tell us how much they enjoy the ambience of the centre, and that's a testament to the design that encourages visitors to linger, explore and enjoy the environment."

One of the centre's standout features is the distinctive roofline and architectural detail that creates an intimate aesthetic. Inside the north retail mall, vertical elements gently curve with rhythmic light elements along the central spine to lead visitors on a journey through the various retail offerings.

"We wanted Yamanto Central to feel akin to an art gallery, where the built form is iconic yet does not compete with the individual tenancies," Leavy explained.

"Instead, the architecture places the retailers front and centre, and Buchan has absolutely nailed this brief. We are now proudly one of the most sought-after shopping centre locations in South East Queensland for leasing and we are proud to have high calibre partners such as Comac Retail Property Group working with us to ensure we attract and connect with wonderful local, national and international retailers for both permanent and highly popular pop-up sites."

Yamanto Central's recognition in the Queensland Retail Property Awards highlights its role as a community-centric development that is setting new benchmarks for retail and customer experience. The future looks bright as the centre continues to grow and serve the community with its innovative design and dynamic retail mix.

"The design of the centre delivers athoughtful mix of commercial, retail, art, and community spaces, inspired by the site's history and JMK Retail's desire to create an enduring and revered destination that brings people together," Buchan, senior associate, Barry Neocleous said.

"We are proud that our work and partnership with JMK Retail has resulted in this industry recognition, and the positive impact this project will have on the community."
