Key Insights on Achieving Resilient Identity Security

Top CISO Priorities: IAM, consolidation, resilience and AI according to the Cyber60 survey of CISO's

Key survey findings based on CISO responses:

  • 97% say implementing AI tools is an important strategic priority in the next 1-2 years, reflecting concerns about AI-powered attacks.
  • 96% say cloud infrastructure ranks high among security spending priorities this year.
  • 95% said IAM (identity access management) is top among their spending priorities this year.
  • 95% prioritise resilience in order to ensure business continuity and recover from attacks with minimal-to-no damage or disruption for customers.
  • 50% say vendor consolidation is a top priority for their organisation over the next year. Currently, CISOs report using 7 security products on average.

In today's rapidly evolving threat landscape, building resilience within identity security is essential for IT leaders. With growing cyber threats and escalating costs of cyber incidents, leaders must prioritise systems that protect business continuity and foster trust. As noted in the recent Cyber 60 report, the sophistication of cyber attacks and increased reliance on cloud infrastructure mean the time for a proactive, resilient approach is now.

Essential Priorities for IT Leaders in Achieving Cyber Resilience

The consequences of cyber incidents are evident globally, the average cost of a data breach in Australia reached a record high of AUD $4.26 million in 2024, marking a 27% increase since 2020 according to IBMs cost of data breaches report. Cybersecurity leaders recognise that waiting for a crisis to prompt investment in resources, cultural shifts, or executive buy-in on risk management is a reactive approach that ultimately leaves organisations vulnerable. Below, Richard Metcalfe, Vice President of Asia Pacific and Japan at Transmit Security, shares insights into the evolving priorities for IT leaders, highlighting the path to achieving resilient identity security.

1. Building a Resilient Security Framework
Resilience in cybersecurity is no longer optional; it's fundamental to ensuring business continuity. The Cyber 60 report emphasises this, highlighting resilience as a top spending priority for 95% of CISOs surveyed. The high-profile CrowdStrike outage in July underscores the importance of resilient platforms that can withstand service disruptions. As the report states, "CrowdStrike's July outage highlighted the need for cyber resilience strategies." IT leaders should seek platforms with robust, active-active multi-cloud architectures to avoid downtime and ensure seamless customer experiences even in the face of potential outages.

2. Consolidating Vendor Solutions for Greater Efficiency
With vendor consolidation identified as a priority for 50% of CISOs according to the Cyber60 report , many organisations are moving towards unified solutions to improve efficiency and reduce security gaps. Currently, organisations use an average of seven distinct cybersecurity tools, which often operate in silos, creating vulnerabilities and increasing operational complexity. Consolidated platforms that offer integrated identity management, verification, and fraud prevention allow organisations to streamline operations, minimise security gaps, and reduce costs. Metcalfe comments, "Consolidation is more than a cost-saving measure; it enables organisations to improve their security posture and operational efficiency by reducing the complexities inherent in managing multiple, disconnected tools."

3. Leveraging AI for Advanced Threat Detection
As cyber threats grow more sophisticated, 97% of CISOs agree that AI will play a critical role in their cybersecurity strategy, shaping vendor choices and enabling more proactive defence mechanisms. Advanced, AI-driven platforms can analyse behavioural patterns and detect fraud attempts in real-time, empowering IT leaders to stay ahead of emerging threats. AI and machine learning (ML) capabilities enable platforms to make dynamic, context-aware decisions, which enhance overall security resilience. Metcalfe notes, "As cybercriminals increasingly harness AI, it's crucial that security solutions leverage the same technology to enable proactive, adaptable threat detection and response."

Cybersecurity as a Business Enabler

For many board executives, cybersecurity is often seen as a barrier rather than a business enabler. Shifting this perception is vital. "The importance of cyber must be framed as an enabler of business continuity rather than a blocker, particularly in discussions with board executives," says Metcalfe. In Asia-Pacific, where digital transformation is accelerating, a resilient identity framework is not only essential for protecting against cyber threats but is also a key competitive differentiator.

Achieving Resilience with Identity Security as a Priority

Cyber incidents are not just technical disruptions—they impact business trust, brand reputation, and long-term financial health. Metcalfe emphasises, "Cyber leaders repeatedly tell us they lack the resources to fully implement secure systems. Yet, their number one goal this financial year is to create a foundation of security that their customers can trust." IT leaders who prioritise resilience in identity security are well-positioned to protect their organisations, mitigate risks, and foster sustainable growth.

Recognition for Innovation and Growth in Identity Security

Transmit Security's recent achievements, including its placement on Fortune's Cyber 60 list and top ratings in Liminal's 2024 ATO Prevention Index, highlight the demand for comprehensive, resilient platforms that integrate identity security and fraud prevention. These recognitions reflect the urgency for scalable solutions that enable enterprises to tackle the complex identity and fraud challenges posed by today's threat landscape.

Achieving resilient identity security requires an adaptable, consolidated approach that leverages AI and prioritises seamless integration. IT leaders who invest in proactive, resilient strategies are best positioned to ensure both security and business continuity, helping their organisations thrive in an increasingly complex cyber landscape. By focusing on a unified, resilient approach, IT leaders can better protect their organisations and support sustainable growth amid evolving cyber threats.
