Court dismisses journalist’s plea against Mumbai Press Club expulsion

The Mumbai City Civil Court has dismissed a notice of motion filed by senior journalist Gurbir Singh, who sought a stay on his six‑year expulsion from the Mumbai Press Club until the disposal of his civil suit. Singh, along with two other members, was expelled over an informal meeting held at the club’s terrace on January 19, attended by some of the accused in the Elgaar Parishad case.
Earlier, the civil court had stayed the expulsion and issued notices to the Press Club and its office‑bearers. However, the Bombay High Court stayed that order on May 22, observing that the civil court had not provided sufficient reasons for granting interim relief and allowing Singh to contest the club’s elections.
