Delhi HC Quashes EOW FIR, ED ECIR against NewsClick and Prabir Purkayastha

The Delhi High Court has quashed the Economic Offences Wing's (EOW) FIR and the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) ECIR against digital news platform NewsClick and its founder-editor, Prabir Purkayastha, in a case related to alleged irregularities in foreign funding.
Justice Neena Bansal Krishna held that even if the allegations were accepted in their entirety, they did not disclose offences of cheating or criminal breach of trust under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC.
The case stemmed from allegations that PPK Newsclick Studio Pvt Ltd received ₹9.59 crore in foreign direct investment from U.S.-based Worldwide Media Holdings LLC in 2018-19 through inflated share valuations to circumvent FDI restrictions on digital news platforms.
