<>   In amongst all the bad news around local newspaper closures and reporting staff being hollowed out as cost-cutting abounds, the good news is there are some really bright spots, as Claire Stutchbery of LINA revealed in this last week’s Influencing Insider interview.  Stuchbery is executive director of the Local & Independent News Association, an organisation which supports local and independent digital news publishers across Australia.  As facts on LINA’s own website point out, from January 2019 to December 2023 there were 204 newsroom contractions and 151 expansions across Australia — a net decrease of 53 newsrooms over three years.  But Stutchbery points to the success stories that span diverse approaches, each tailored to their community's unique needs.  “We have a member called the Tasmanian Enquirer who's just been shortlisted for a Walkley Award for some of the work that they're doing around environmental and science reporting,” said Stutchbery

Overall, Australia's richest continue to get richer, with this year’s AFR Rich List list just released and revealing the country’s 200 largest fortunes have collectively leapt 6.9 per cent since last year's List.  This year marks the 43rd Rich List, first published in the Business Review Weekly magazine in 1983 when the total worth of Australia’s wealthiest people was only $4.6 billion. The year’s Rich List will appear in a special edition of The Australian Financial Review Magazine in this Friday’s Financial Review. Marriage breakdowns have re-shaped the top Rich List rankings in 2025. PTI grants YouTubers access to videos

Press Trust of India has released a statement for the YouTube content creator community on social media, allowing access to PTI's videos to use on YouTube and other social media platforms. The statement follows the recent copyright strike issued by ANI against YouTube creators for using its news footage. “To support responsible content creation, we offer individual YouTube creators highly affordable access to PTI videos for your YouTube content and use in other social media platforms,” the statement read. YouTubers can contact PTI’s sales and marketing team to subscribe to PTI and access their content. Interested YouTubers can email [email protected] stating their requirement and contact number.
