Today's Ten: Supreme Court stays controversial Kanwar Yatra nameplate order

The Supreme Court has stayed the UP and Uttarakhand governments’ controversial directive mandating eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of their owners. The apex court has instead ordered that the kind of food served be displayed to Kanwar Yatris. The state government’s insistence on revealing the names of owners had faced backlash for fostering exclusion and discrimination.
The Court highlighted petitioners' concerns about identity-based exclusion and emphasised its stance on safeguarding individual rights. While the UP government argues that this move ensures transparency and security during the pilgrimage, one can't help but think it could also be a veiled attempt to impose religious scrutiny.
