TV Today takes ABP to court over ‘Maha Dangal’ show title
By Staff Writer in Media News on Friday, 25th April 2025 at 6:52pmTV Today Network has filed a case in the Delhi High Court against ABP News, alleging that the title of its show ‘Maha Dangal’ is deceptively similar to Aaj Tak’s long-running debate programme ‘Dangal’, according to Bar and Bench.
Justice Amit Bansal issued notice on the petition and observed that viewers typically identify shows by their channel, noting that ‘Dangal’—also the title of a popular Bollywood film—cannot be exclusively trademarked.
TV Today’s counsel, Hrishikesh Baruah, argued that ABP’s programme features former Aaj Tak anchor Priyanka Tripathi, who previously hosted ‘Dangal’, potentially causing confusion among viewers. However, the petition does not challenge her move to ABP, only the naming of the show.
