The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology has urged the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) to introduce the Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill in Parliament, according to a report tabled on Tuesday. On January 17, the MIB informed the committee that it would draft a revised version of the bill and prepare a Cabinet Note for inter-ministerial consultation following stakeholder discussions, which were extended until October 15, 2024, reported Hindustan Times. The draft will then be submitted for cabinet approval. The committee, in its fifty-sixth report, recommended consolidating regulations for the cable TV industry under a single act, replacing the current framework governed by multiple laws and regulatory bodies, including the MIB, TRAI, and the Department of Telecommunications.
